Rollerblading, America’s pastime. Maybe not so much, but still a great tradition amongst people from all around the world. A quick way to get from A to B, unless of course you need to get to C. Then you may want to take a bike. But seriously, it’s an easy way to easily put them on and just go.
Of course nearly anything you do outside is exercise, unless that anything is drinking beer and eating cheese burgers at a cookout. However, to some people that is exercise. “I put a 5 lb. weight on my beer so every time I take a swig I’m doing a curl.” Yeah, sorry, but no. You go out for a walk, a jog, a run, a sprint, a bike ride, to blade, you’re exercising. Walking, jogging, running and sprinting are great exercises, but they’re not fun. Oh exercise isn’t supposed to be fun, shut up. Riding a bike is a joy, rollerblading is awesome, running, yeah, you can do that on your own.
Rollerblading helps alleviate the stress from the day, it helps you focus on exactly what’s in front of you. If you’re not paying attention, you’re going in to a crack, you’re riding over a stick or rocks. There’s so much that can come your way that you have to stay focused, but also stay relaxed. If you’re tense and have to quickly move, your body needs to relax your muscles in order to change the muscles that are needed to quickly move. Or something like that. But for real, playing some music while you roll around calm side streets is so relaxing to me. Every time I go out, I never want to go home. I could just keep riding around and listening to music.
You’ll get looks, but don’t let that deter you. If you’re blading, you’re doing something that others can’t or wouldn’t want to do. Rollerblading is different when it comes to being outside. I’m really not sure what the stigma is that comes with it, but people always make fun of people who rollerblade. Is it because it was big in the 80’s and 90’s? I don’t ride around with my walk-man and short shorts with my jockstrap bunched up.
Get some blades. Seriously, they’re relatively inexpensive depending on what type you get, what you plan on using them for, and how often you plan on using them. You’ll get a great work out, you’ll be happier because your head is clearer, and you’ll be a better you all-in-all!
